WHAT IS A SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM?

School Counselors hold a Master’s degree and required state certification in school counseling. Counselors help students with problem solving, character building, peer relationships, study skills, understanding feelings, social skills, post-secondary planning and career exploration. Our goal is to implement a comprehensive school counseling program that creates a caring and supportive environment where students can reach their full potential and therefore become productive, active members of society.

A School Counseling program is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design and developmental in nature. A comprehensive program will focus on what all students should know, understand and be able to do in three domain areas including; academic, career and personal/social. The purpose of the program is to impart specific skills and learning opportunities in a proactive, preventative manner; ensuring that all students can achieve school success through the domain areas. School counselors design programs and offer services to meet the needs of students at various growth and developmental stages.
